About
PACEmaker International (PACE) was founded in 2013 by Peggy Mativo, then a young Kenyan woman studying at Harvard University, in response to overcrowded classrooms and high teacher-to-student ratios in Kenya’s public schools. The organization initially supported schools in informal settlements through volunteer-led community-based youth engagement and classroom support. Over time, PACE evolved from a volunteer placement approach into a structured fellowship-based model with clearer role definition, stronger supervision, and a focus on instructional quality and safeguarding. Today, PACE focuses on improving learning outcomes in hard-to-staff schools serving vulnerable learners who face persistent learning gaps despite being enrolled in school. PACE operates directly in Kenya and has successfully replicated the model in Uganda (through School for Life Uganda). To date, we have reached more than 296,000 learners with 1.3 million hours of education service.
Mission. Enable quality education for children in underserved communities through trained volunteers, qualified teachers, engaged parents and inspire youth-led change in Africa.
